Cemal Gürsel Soyel

 

 

Cemal Gürsel Soyel was born in 1961 in Paphos, Cyprus. He studied painting at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul and travelled in France, Netherlands and Italy. He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria under Prof. Anton Lehmden.
Soyel prefers to follow spontaneous impulses in creating his works in a constant effort to reflect his feelings on the canvas. His style involves multiple layers of thick paint, where the rhythm is of primordial importance.
Soyel held his first solo exhibition in 1989 in Vienna, Austria, won the first prize at the International Young Artists Competition (St. Jakob, Osttirol – Austria) in 1990 and has participated in a variety of group exhibitions and fairs. He currently works in Istanbul and Vienna.
